Helicopters

Look out for these noisy machines, with their rotor blades whizzing around on top of them. Watch them as they come into land, hovering above the ground, before eventually touching down.

Try to find some dragonflies to watch – you will usually find them near ponds and pools of water. Notice the similarities in their movement to that of helicopters. They are often to be found hovering above the water. Explain that though they both hover, dragonflies have wide wings instead of rotor blades and their fight is silent.
